    Towns and villages

Palinuro lies beside a rocky headland on the Cilento coast. The beaches invite you to relax, and boat trips offer a view of the shore from the sea. It is a destination for a longer outing, not a quick trip after lunch. Consider it as a separate stop before or after your stay at Cedromare.

  30. Certosa di Padula

    History and culture

At Certosa di San Lorenzo in Padula, the spacious cloisters and monumental staircase catch the eye. The monastery's architecture can hold your attention for a long time, so avoid squeezing the visit between several other plans. Before setting off, check the opening hours and which parts of the complex are accessible.

  31. Maierà

    Towns and villages

In Maierà, the little chilli pepper has a museum of its own. Museo del Peperoncino tells the story of its origins and place in culture, with the old town waiting outside. It is worth extending your walk towards Santa Maria del Piano. Leave time after the museum for Maierà's lanes.

  32. Sangineto

    Towns and villages

Old Sangineto draws the eye to the stone doorway of Chiesa Matrice di Santa Maria della Neve. Down by the sea is Sangineto Lido, where Castello del Principe stands out. These are two different parts of the town. Choose one for a walk or leave time to drive between them; access to the castle interiors needs confirmation.

  33. Scalea

    Towns and villages

Scalea's old town climbs the hillside above the coastal buildings. A walk leads towards Piazza Maggiore de Palma, Palazzo dei Principi Spinelli and Torre Cimalonga. Give yourself time for the lanes between them. Down by the sea, Torre Talao stands separately as the town's landmark.

  34. Aieta

    Towns and villages

Aieta invites you to slow down beside its stone doorways and turn into the side streets. The Renaissance Palazzo Martirano-Spinelli is its most striking historic building, but Chiesa di Santa Maria della Visitazione is also worth finding. A walk around the town combines pleasantly with a separately arranged visit to the palace.

  35. Maratea

    Towns and villages

In historic Maratea, lanes lead between squares and old houses. Palazzo De Lieto is one of the places worth stopping at, but the charm of the Borgo is found along the way as well. The port and Monte San Biagio show other sides of the area, beyond the town itself.

  36. Belvedere Marittimo

    Towns and villages

In upper Belvedere Marittimo, a walk takes you around the castle and through the lanes of the old centre. Chiesa del SS. Crocifisso attracts lovers of historic sights, while the buildings themselves invite a longer stay. The Marina is down by the sea. There, old lanes give way to the coastal landscape.

  37. Paola

    Towns and villages

Paola has a story of its own beyond the well-known sanctuary. Porta San Francesco invites you into the old centre, and Fontana dei Sette Canali gives you another reason to pause along the way. Stay in town longer if you fancy a gentle walk after visiting the sanctuary.

  38. Cirella

    Towns and villages

Today's Cirella lies below the hill with the ruins of the old settlement. In the town, you will find Santa Maria dei Fiori, and nearer the sea you can look out at the island. The former settlement above and the modern town beside the shore show how different the faces of one area can be.

  39. Isola di Dino

    Beaches, bays and islands

Dino island catches the eye from the beaches of Praia a Mare and Fiuzzi. Its rocky shores and caves are best explored from the water on an outing with a local operator. It is an option for lovers of coastal scenery and for anyone interested in diving. The programme depends on the day's conditions.

Agree the meeting point for a boat trip or dive with the operator. The island itself is marked on the map, so we do not provide driving directions to it.

  40. Isola di Cirella

    Beaches, bays and islands

Cirella island is part of the view from the shores of Diamante and Cirella. It gives even a simple waterside walk a lovely backdrop. To see it up close, look for a boat trip. Agree the route and any possible landing with the operator.

Arrange your boat trip with the operator and confirm the meeting point and whether landing is possible. The island marked on the map is not a boarding point.

  41. Arcomagno

    Beaches, bays and islands

The rock arch at Arcomagno opens a view into a small bay. It is one of those landscapes that makes you want to stop and look. Visits do have specific rules and a time limit, though. Combine it with a walk through San Nicola Arcella and plan your beach time somewhere else.

Before visiting, read the manager's rules and check the approach to the entrance currently in use. We have marked the rock arch on the map; it is neither a car park nor an entrance.

  42. Spiaggia della Marinella

    Beaches, bays and islands

Marinella invites you to relax beside a bay on the San Nicola Arcella coast. After walking around the town, it is pleasant to head down to the water and linger on the shore. Nearby Arcomagno requires a separate visit under the manager's rules. Beach services at Marinella vary with the season.

  43. Carpino beach

    Beaches, bays and islands

At Carpino, the Scalea coastline becomes rockier. The bay invites you to give it time rather than hurry on to the next beach. Before your outing, check the right path down to the shore. If using local facilities, their rules apply, including where the beach adjoins private land.

  44. The beach at Santa Maria del Cedro

    Beaches, bays and islands

Santa Maria del Cedro's beach lets you enjoy the sea close to the house. Sand, gravel and small pebbles vary along the shore, with lido beach facilities beside public stretches. Beaches, bays and islands

From Caporena beach around Punta Fiuzzi, you can see Dino island, with the tower standing out above the shore. It is a view worth choosing this stretch of the Praia a Mare coast for. A little time beside the water lets you take in the rocky island and enjoy the seascape.

Caporena beach in the Punta Fiuzzi area.

  46. Cascata Ficara, Argentino valley

    Nature and views

Cascata Ficara draws you into the green Argentino valley. The waterfall and nearby arboretum suggest a day in nature away from the coastal streets. Confirm the current access route before walking. An outing further into the valley needs additional preparation.

The waterfall is reached on foot. Before the outing, check the trailhead, parking and current conditions. We do not provide driving directions to the waterfall itself.

  47. 400 GRADI Pizzeria Contemporanea

    Flavours

At 400 GRADI on Corso del Tirreno, classic pizzas sit alongside Calabrian flavours. Diavola with ’nduja is an option for anyone who likes a spicier topping. The shop is on Via Lauro; check opening times and the availability of the products you want before shopping.

  51. Cozzo del Pellegrino

    Nature and views

  52. Monte La Mula

    Nature and views

La Mula is one of the high Orsomarso mountains. The ascents described by CAI start from the Piano di Lanzo side and are intended for experienced hikers. It is a separate outing, allowing you to devote a whole day to the mountain landscape.

  53. Monte Caramolo

    Nature and views

Caramolo rises above the wooded interior of the massif. It is one of the hiking destinations from the Novacco side, where beech woods give way to clearings. Treat the summit ascent as a separate outing from a shorter woodland walk.

  54. Montea

    Nature and views

Montea is a striking destination for those who enjoy demanding mountain days. Its rocky landscape and long walk deserve good preparation. Access to the chosen starting point must be agreed separately; an older description from Fontana Cornia called for an off-road vehicle on the final stretch.

  55. Monte La Caccia

    Nature and views

La Caccia rises in the mountains behind Belvedere Marittimo. Routes here pass among rocks and pino loricato pines, and the full ascent requires experience. A scenic walk to a lower destination and climbing the summit are different kinds of outing.

  56. Monte Palanuda

    Nature and views

Palanuda is one of the mountains surrounding the Argentino valley. The reserve manager mentions it in the description of the upper area. It forms part of Orsomarso's extensive woodland landscape; a walk here requires a separately chosen approach.

  57. Monte Trincello

    Nature and views

Trincello appears in the mountain views behind Verbicaro. The park also links this area with the Piano la Sepa clearings. It is a good reason to explore the landscape above the towns and agree a specific ascent with the local CAI.

  58. Monte Ciagola

    Nature and views

Ciagola is a mountain destination above the Papasidero area. The park's register lists trail 654 from Piazza Umberto I as a route for experienced hikers. The mountain outing is a separate plan from a walk through the town and a visit to the sanctuary.

  59. Monte Pollino

    Nature and views

Monte Pollino gives a sense of open mountain space. One ascent runs from Colle Impiso through the Gaudolino area, out of the woods towards high slopes and pines. In the guide, you will find a specific full outing with a return to the starting point.

  60. Serra Dolcedorme

  61. Serra del Prete

  62. Serra di Crispo

    Nature and views

  63. Serra delle Ciavole

    Nature and views

  64. Piano Ruggio

    Nature and views

The broad Piano Ruggio clearing, surrounded by mountains, offers a break from the coastal towns. The walk to Belvedere del Malvento begins beside Rifugio De Gasperi. It is an idea for a day of woods and views, without adding an ascent to the highest summit.

Drive to the parking area near De Gasperi. Continue on foot along trail 900.

  65. Belvedere del Malvento

    Nature and views

Belvedere del Malvento looks out over the mountain landscape and pino loricato pines. A walking trail leads here from Piano Ruggio. This view can be the main destination of a more relaxed day in Pollino, ending with a return along the same route.

  66. Colle Impiso

    Nature and views
